Ghana Street Children Apprenticeship Project (SCAP)
In Ghana, as recently as 2013, Challenging Heights reported that one million children between the ages of 5 and 15 were living on the streets. ‘Streetism’ is a real and terrible problem. African Enterprise saw a need several years ago, and acted. The Street Children Apprenticeship Project that African Enterprise runs in Ghana was created to alleviate associated problems with ‘streetism’ such as robbery, prostitution and drug addiction. Instead, children can be supported and empowered.
“For us at AE Ghana, we believe the project will bring about economic development because; when the children are given skill training they will end up having a productive mind-set and will make positive contributions to national development.”
Every year through this programme, African Enterprise brings children off the streets and equips them with skills. In 2017, the proposed Vocation Courses are dressmaking and tailoring, computing, hairdressing and beautician, aluminium fabrication, and auto mechanics, to train 50 children.
